Member Experience
ALA-Massachusetts offers one of the few opportunities that offers an AmeriCorps national service experience in a legal setting.
Our AmeriCorps members leave at the end of their service year with a core set of legal skills and a deep understanding of what low-income families in crisis face. Here’s what our members and alumni say about their experience serving as an ALA-Massachusetts Advocate:
“This model is a good way for a new attorney to cut her teeth, learn the ropes of legal aid and meet some of the brightest and best mentors around.” |
“A life-changing experience that I will always carry with me.” |
“This experience makes me realize how true it is that going to law school only teaches you how to think like a lawyer, practicing law is the only way that you can understand what really happens in the day-to-day.” |
“I leave the program with the commitment and burden of continuing the fight against poverty through legal advocacy.” |
“It’s been such a reward to have clients appreciate the work that I’ve done and to know that I’ve made a meaningful impact in their lives.” |
