How to Apply

AmeriCorps Legal Advocates of Massachusetts is seeking 36 college and law school graduates to serve as AmeriCorps Advocates in 2018–2019. This is a full-time service position, requiring 1,700 hours over 46 weeks from September 10, 2018 to July 26, 2019.

ALA-Massachusetts is looking for candidates who have an interest in poverty law, a commitment to public service, and strong communications skills. Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Haitian-Creole, Vietnamese, and other foreign language speakers preferred. Candidates willing to work in any region in Massachusetts will have a higher probability of being selected for interviews.

In order to be eligible to serve with ALA-Massachusetts, candidates must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.

In order to be considered, all applicants must complete our on-line application.

Applications must be completed in one setting, and applicants must upload a cover letter, resume, and transcript along with the application. Applications are then circulated to our partners for review, and partners make decisions about which candidates to interview and select. Our process is competitive, as we receive far more applications to serve than we can accommodate.

Applications are considered on a rolling basis until all 36 member slots have been filled. Most members are selected by the end of June. Because AmeriCorps Advocates have recurring access to vulnerable populations, selected candidates will have to pass a three-part criminal background check in order to serve.

ALA-Massachusetts is an equal opportunity project, available to all, without regard to race, color, national origin, disability, age, sex, sexual orientation, political affiliation, or religion. We are committed to the inclusion of people with disabilities and will provide reasonable accommodations for interviews and service placement upon request.
